530 Street Vendors Trained By Meghalaya Commissionerate of Food Safety

Shillong: Five hundred and thirty street food vendors were trained by the State Commissionerate of Food Safety during the street food vendors training programme inaugurated here on September 17. The programme which concluded on Monday, is an initiative of the Commissionerate of Food Safety, Meghalaya and supported by Nestle India Ltd and National Association of Street Vendor of India (NASVI). It was the first-of-its kind programme organized to train street food vendors in Meghalaya. The main objective of the training programme was to provide access to safe street food to the consumers by training the street food vendors on “food safety” and “hygiene”. This initiative is a great way not only to ensure healthy food for consumers thereby safeguarding the health and well-being of people but also enables street food vendors to sustain better livelihoods in new market conditions with increased awareness on the importance to raise the standards for food safety and hygiene.
