Anti Narcotic Task Force Operations Lead to Arrests, Seizures of Heroin in Shillong

SHILLONG: A team of Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF), East Khasi Hills Office, and the staff of Pasteur Beat House apprehended 14 persons during an operation in Polo area of Shillong on Tuesday. The team also recovered a small amount of heroin (0.47 grams) from the possession of one of the arrested person – Marios Pyngrope (38). During further interrogation, Pyngrope revealed that he stores contraband in a forest area across the FCI godown. Following this lead, the police carried out a search operation at the PHE Pump House in Lawmali and recovered 17.76 grams of contraband items.

The police is still probing the source of the drug supply network and said further arrests cannot be ruled out. A case (144(7)17 u/s 21(a) & 21(b) NDPS Act) has been registered against Marios Pyngrope.

In a separate incident, based on specific inputs, the Madanrting police and the ANTF conducted a raid yesterday in Happy Valley and arrested one Luck Chakravarty for selling drugs. After observing due procedure laid down in the NDPS Act for search and seizure in presence of independent witnesses, the ANTF team was able to recover 3 soap boxes and 4 Golden tobacco tins full of heroin weighing 39.95 grams. A case (76(07)19 U/S 21(b) NDPS) has been registered against the accused.
