 SHILLONG: Assam Rifles celebrated its 188th Raising Day on Friday at its Laitkor Garrison, Shillong, and also at its various formations and units in the North East and Jammu and Kashmir.

This year the celebration of Raising Day was graced by the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Development of the North East Region, G. Kishan Reddy, as the Chief Guest. The Minister, along with Lieutenant General P. C. Nair, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, PhD, DG Assam Rifles, and all ranks of the Force, paid homage to the brave hearts of the Force who, in the past 188 years, have made the Supreme Sacrifice in the line of duty at the War Memorial in Shillong.

In addition, personnel of the Force were awarded one Shaurya Chakra, seven Sena Medals, and 411 Presidential and Governors Medals. In Operations 2022-23, the Force demonstrated its mettle once again. During this period, three battalions received the Chief of the Army Staff Unit Citation, and five battalions received the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Unit Citation. In addition, personnel of the Force were awarded one Shaurya Chakra, seven Sena Medals, and 411 Presidential and Governors Medals, stated a press release.

In the year 2022-23, the Force also excelled in sports, winning six medals in International Games (Gold-one, Silver-one, and Bronze-four), National Games (Gold-17, Silver-17, and Bronze-15), and AIPDM (Gold-31, Silver-25, and Bronze-26).
