SHILLONG: Even though four days have passed since the alleged assault on a member of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) and a student from Assam at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) campus, the police are yet to nab the culprits involved in the incident.

It may be mentioned that on October 9, the HYC had constituted its branch at NEHU. According to reports after conclusion of the function, a member of the newly constituted body at the University was assaulted by unidentified masked youths at around 11pm.

In this connection, the police have started their investigation; and to identify the culprits they have also taken the footages of CCTV cameras in and around the Kupli Boys Hostel where the incident reportedly took place.

The HYC had also filed an FIR at Mawlai Police Station on the night of the incident. The next day, the HYC leaders also met the SP Shillong City, SA Rynjah and urged him to initiate immediate action and speed up investigation in finding and arresting the culprits.

Speaking to The Sentinel, leaders of the Council informed that on Saturday they also met the officer in-charge Mawlai Police Station in this regard. “Our members are agitated as the culprits are still at large and have not been arrested by the police. Hence, the department in charge of the investigation should take up prompt action in this regard and speed up the process in finding these people,” the HYC leaders said.
