SHILLONG: The Bethany Hospital which saw the first COVID-19 patient who subsequently succumbed to the contagious disease, has expressed its gratitude to each and every member of different communities for their selfless efforts.

In a letter written by the nodal officer of Bethany Hospital, Dr Kyntiewlang Sanmiet, they expressed appreciation and gratitude to the “superheroes” who are spending their days and nights to make sure that everyone has access to medical care, food, transportation and other vital services and for fighting the coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc over the entire society.

“To all our Healthcare workers, thank you for your unrelenting commitment and cooperation. I am also humbled at the bravery, hard work and dedication of our troops at the frontline in our hospitals. Each one of you is an example of love, courage, care and compassion,” Dr Sanmiet said.

The nodal officer of Bethany Hospital also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, his team of Ministers and the entire government for helping them during these difficult times. “Your willingness to help out whenever there is a need is greatly appreciated,” Dr Sanmiet said.

The Bethany Hospital also thanked the officials of the Health department. “Thank you for being trustworthy and unbiased guides in taking care of all our healthcare workers and patients; for making sure that all our needs are available; for reaching into the dark corners of medical ignorance and fear with education and services. Thank you for being caring enough to provide healthy meals for us everyday at our hospital and quarantine centres,” Dr Sanmiet said.

The Bethany Hospital also thanked East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Matsiewdor War Nongbri and her officers as well as Superintendent of Police Claudia Lyngwa and her team.

Dr Sanmiet further appreciated those who are staying at home in self-isolation to do their part in flattening the COVID curve and saving lives.

The nodal officer also thanked journalists and public health officials who spend countless hours keeping citizens informed with truthful news and advice to keep safe. “Thank you to the municipal cleaners. You help shield our immune system from invisible predators and save lives by doing so,” Dr Sanmiet said.
