SHILLONG: The State unit of the BJP on Wednesday said that it was surprised to hear the National People’s Party (NPP) statement that the saffron party and the Congress were sharing the same bed.

“The NPP president will do well to remember that the elected NPP members are old wine in a new bottle,” State BJP president Ernest Mawrie said.

Mawrie was reacting to State NPP president W Kharlukhi’s statement accusing the BJP of cheating its ally the NPP following the political drama in Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

The State BJP chief said that the member of the district council of any political party can always maintain his or her identity in the council and when any member is not satisfied with the style of functioning of the ruling side, the door is always open for the aggrieved member to align with the party having the majority in the Council.

“His statement becomes much less convincing as the pot calling the kettle black – fogging issues with unrelated information which are totally nonsense, trying to portray the half-truth as reality,” Mawrie said. The State BJP president also said that his party is less likely to be vulnerable to attempts of being divided, at the State or the Council level.

Mawrie also said that the challenge to replace the present Executive Committee, with little or no authority, is an endeavour to put things right in the affairs of the GHADC, indefinitely.

“The deceit of the present EC may be better known to the people of the region and let the people know what has occurred,” Mawrie said.
