SHILLONG: The BRO (Border Roads Organisation) is conducting motorcycle expedition in Northeast to commemorate the 75th anniversary of country's Independence in a befitting manner and as part of the overall 'AzadikaAmritMahotsav' celebrations of the Government of India. This motorcycle expedition also coincides with 61st Raising Day of BRO.

The aim of the motorcycle expedition by the BRO is to spread awareness about COVID-19 and the safety measures to be adopted by one and all, connect with the people of Northeast and spread awareness about the organisation's contribution towards achieving 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', road-safety measures to be adopted by the citizens, and act as messengers of 'Peace, Harmony, National Integration'.

In view of the present situation arising out of the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, and lockdown imposed in many States of NE, the motorcycle expedition has been planned to be conducted in respective Project AoR (Areas of Responsibility). A team of 44 officers and personnel of BRO riding 25 motorcycles covered a cumulative distance of approximately 6,800 kms in the seven project AoRs , said ADGBR (East) PKH Singh.

During the expedition, the expedition teams have also interacted with former serviceman and former GREF persons, organized small medical camps at various remote places, created road-safety awareness among people by using posters, leaflets and banners. The expedition was flagged-in at Guwahati in the presence of Addl DGBR (East) Singh.

Facing challenges and overcoming them is routine for BRO personnel. The BRO has undertaken some of the most challenging and daunting tasks in meeting the aspirations of the country.

The organisation has done an excellent job of building roads under forbidding circumstances in the Northeast, once considered very remote and has played a pivotal role in the development of the region by building roads, bridges, airfields in the daunting circumstances.

During the occasion at Guwahati, Addl DGBR (East) P.K.H. Singh said that in the coming years the organisation will rise to newer heights to meet the aspirations of the people of Northeast by playing an instrumental and a pivotal role in the development of Road Infrastructure.

The programmeeneded with the flag-in ceremony with teams led by Col AmitRawat, Commander Eastern Stores Division, Tezpur; Col AK Singh, Eastern Base Workshop; and Ex Engineer P. Prasad leading their teams of motorcyclists at the venue.

On this occasion, Director General Border Roads, Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry, has extended his warm greetings to the people of nation and also the Army and GREF personnel, stated a press release.
