BSF Meghalaya distributes necessary items to border villagers

SHILLONG: In its effort to serve the population residing along the border and also to inculcate a sense of security among them, FTR HQrs BSF (Border Security Force) Meghalaya organized a civic-action programme at the border area of BOP Harai (East Jaintia Hills) of Meghalaya on Thursday.

The programme was organized in the border villages of Harai, Hungaria, Barsora, Laijuri, Lailong, Kuliang, Umkiang and Rattachera in the area of 97 Bn BSF. The programme was inaugurated by Hardeep Singh, Inspector General, Frontier HQrs Meghalaya in the presence of Subhash Chandra, Sector Deputy Inspector General Jowai.

During the programme various sports, stationery, medicines and electronic appliances worth Rs 8,50,000 were distributed to the people residing along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Approximately 500 civilians joined this programme and expressed their happiness and gratitude on the friendly gesture demonstrated by the BSF.

U.K. Nayal, DIG PRO BSF Meghalaya assured the gathering that the BSF will continue such efforts in the future. He informed them, ''The BSF stands committed towards the service of mankind and we can be freely approached for any help.''
