SHILLONG: The BSF (Border Security Force) Meghalaya Frontier has handed over two Bangladeshi nationals along with all the recovered items to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) as a goodwill gesture during a flag meeting at the border area of Laijuri BOP (Border Out Post), 97 Bn BSF under East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. Prior to that the two persons were also examined medically. The two persons had inadvertently crossed over to the Indian side.

BSF troops of the BOP apprehended the two Bangladeshi nationals inside Indian territory near Border Pillar No.1323/3-S after they crossed the border inadvertently at around 6:45 pm on March 8 (Monday). The two persons revealed their identities as Ahsan Habib Raju, (28 years), son of Hussain Ahmed; and Sandip Das (34 years), son of Damodar Das. Both are residents of village Vishnupur under Kanaighat Police Station of Sylhet distgrict of Bangladesh.

Hardeep Singh, Inspector General Meghalaya Frontier said, "Normally, such trespassers are handed over to the local police station and prosecuted under the 'Foreigners Act'. However, in cases where innocence is proved, we make an exception and hand over such people to the BGB as a goodwill gesture.''
