BSF seizes cosmetics worth more than 33 lakh along Meghalaya-B'desh border

Personnel of BSF Meghalaya continuing its efforts to curb smuggling activities in the State has further on Sunday seized a huge quantity of cosmetics during a special operation launched along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

SHILLONG: Personnel of BSF Meghalaya continuing its efforts to curb smuggling activities in the State has further on Sunday seized a huge quantity of cosmetics during a special operation launched along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Acting on a tipoff, BSF troops of Baghmara BOP (Border Out Post) of 43 Bn BSF recovered cosmetics and other miscellaneous items from the jungle area village Bhawanipur under South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya near the border. The items were recovered from a hidden place in the jungle when they were kept for smuggling to Bangladesh. The approximate market value of the recovered items is Rs 33 lakh. The seized items were handed over to Customs office at Dalu for further investigation and legal action.

IG of BSF Meghalaya Frontier Hardeep Singh said, "The BSF is determined to have zero tolerance against trans-border crimes. Our personnel are keeping constant vigil on changing modus operandi of smugglers. Remaining one step ahead of the criminals, the BSF has been successful in seizing huge quantities of contraband items being smuggled to Bangladesh so far."
