SHILLONG: In its determination towards making the international border free of crime, the BSF, Meghalaya seized 60 cattle in the last 24 hours from the bordering area of the East and West Jaintia Hills districts, which were meant for smuggling to Bangladesh.

According to the BSF, most of the cattle were being brought clandestinely to the border area through forest areas by miscreants when their personnel intercepted them.

One truck loaded with cattle was also confiscated by the BSF near Umkiang in the East Jaintia Hills district area, although the driver and one of his accomplices managed to abscond from the spot.

"Miscreants are trying to get maximum benefit of heavy rain and inclement conditions, underestimating supervision and access of force, but BSF keeps on throwing cold water on their plans by being extra alert," the BSF said.

The BSF said that during the first half of the ongoing year, the BSF, Meghalaya has confiscated more than 2,000 cattle from the international border.

"Owing to drastic climatic conditions BSF has enhanced alertness on the international border to maintain national security as well as to prevent all kind of trans-border crimes and illegal activities," the BSF said.
