CAB: NESO announces 11-hour bandh in Meghalaya

Shillong: Ahead of the 11-hour bandh sponsored by the North East Students Organization (NESO), the Meghalaya government has asked the district administrations and the police to be alert. Fresh circulars have been given to the district authorities to ensure that there is no law and order problem in the State.

A senior official at the Shillong Police headquarters told The Sentinel, “After analyzing the situation, we are aware on how to react to any volatile situation”. The police intelligence inputs are also aware about the indignation of the people in the streets.

While Assam has witnessed certain unpleasant protests in the past few days till late this afternoon, talks doing the rounds in many circles spoke about similar protests in Shillong city and other parts of the State. These include burning of tyres, road blockades and others during the 11-hour bandh.

This correspondent visited a few households who were watching television to learn the alteration clause of the CAB were lucid in saying that the legislation will never suit the Northeast. “I fear that the old hatred will come where the original non-tribal inhabitants will bear the brunt of any force which are outright in opposing the CAB”, stated a women on condition of anonymity.
