SHILLONG: The State government has released funds to the three Autonomous District Councils in the State through the District Council Affairs Department. The funds were allotted by the 15th Finance Commission.

Mentionably, the three Councils have been complaining about the delay in release of the Central funds. Sources said that the funds were released in the past three months.

Official data mention that an amount of Rs 20,47,50,000 was sanctioned to the KHADC (Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council) on January 29, 2021; and Rs 6,82,50,000 was released to the JHADC (Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council) also on the same date.

The cash strapped GHADC (Garo Hills Autonomous District Council), which has failed to pay salary to its employees for many months was allotted with Rs 18,20,00,000 crores on March 4, 2021.

Since there was a delay in releasing the funds, the government will have to pay a penalty with interest as per the effective rate of interest on market borrowings and State development loans.
