SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that the State government is keen to ensure that the setting up of the 'Facilitation Centres' is done at the earliest so that the mechanism of checking influx as envisaged in the 'Meghalaya Resident Safety and Security Act-2016' is strengthened.
"The State government is committed towards ensuring that the process of land acquisition and setting up of the 'Facilitation Centres' is done at the earliest at all the entry and exit points," Sangma said. He informed the House that of the 24 locations identified in Phase I, a total of 41 was selected for the setting up of these entry and exit points, adding that the land acquisition process is at various stages of progress.
Sangma was replying to a short duration discussion on the report 'NGOs express anger that the Government has stopped the construction of the Entry Point at Umling', on the final day of the Autumn session of the Meghalaya Assembly initiated by Congress MLA from Nongpoh, MayralbornSyiem on Thursday.
The Chief Minister informed the House that work has not stopped for construction of the Entry Point at Umling.
"In fact, the work for the construction of the Facilitation Centre at the Umling has already started and is due to be completed by November, 2020," he said.
