Coincidence over HNLC cases raises eyebrows

SHILLONG: The conviction of former HNLC chairman Julius Dorphang by Nongpoh Court on Friday for the alleged rape of a minor and killing of outfit's former general secretary Cherishstarfield Thangkhiew by the police happened on the same day.

The coincidence has raised curiosity among the residents of the State.

Dorphang was taken into custody by the police on Friday after he was convicted for the rape of minor in December 2016 in a resort in Ri Bhoi.

Another FIR against Dorphang is in Shillong after he allegedly raped the girl in a guest house in the city.

Advocate for Julius, Kishore Ch Gautam said that he will appeal before the High Court challenging the order of the lower Court. He has been convicted on Friday but the hearing on the sentencing will be held on Monday.
