SHILLONG: Demanding the immediate implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State, the 'Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations' (CoMSO) staged a candlelight protest at the Malki Ground here on the day Meghalaya is celebrating its 49th year of attaining Statehood.

This is the first agitation of the year by the conglomeration of NGOs under the banner of CoMSO. It had earlier decided not to carry out any other agitation during the Christmas period of last year.

CoMSO chairman Robert June Kharjarin said, "We will wait for Amit Shah to visit the State and listen to what he has to say on the demand of ILP. Hence, today we are only conducting a candlelight protest."

The Central government should listen to the demands of the people concerning ILP and other issues like inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the constitution of India among others, he said.

"The government and the Opposition party in the State should join hands to ensure that the ILP is implemented in our State," he said, adding, "There is a need for an all-party meeting to discuss the various issues which needs to be presented to the Central government."
