SHILLONG: The Shillong city wing of National People's Party (NPP) on Wednesday lashed at the Congress for politicising the issue of fuel price rise and electricty load shedding in the State "without knowing the persistent steps taken by the Government till it materialised today".

Under constant fire from the Oppossition and other NGOs for the sudden load shedding and hikes in fuel price, Anthony Nongbri, working president of the NPP Shillong city unit said that the government is for the people and listens to the voices of the public.

He further said that the decision of the State government to withdraw its decision on load shedding within 48 hours after it was imposed shows that the leadership is capable to impress higher authorities to stop the regulation of power supply.

He added that the debts with the power generation companies has been there for years.

Nongbri said, "Meghalaya is far ahead of the seven sister States in terms of load shedding. In Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, load shedding is undertaken for five to six hours.

On the other hand, Meghalya will have none in the days to come, he added alludng to the steps undertaken by the NPP government to ease the distress of tgher citizens.

According to Nongbri, the fuel prices in Shillong is one of the lowest in the country with Rs 85.86 per litre of petrol while it is Rs 92.77 in Chennai, Rs 89.54 in Delhi, Rs. 91.68 in Kolkata and Rs. 96.41 in Mumbai.
