TURA: The office of the Deputy Commissioner of Supply, West Garo Hills, organized a one-day Consumer Awareness Programme at the Multi Facility Building at Bolchugre village in West Garo Hills on Friday where a large number of people from all walks of life, including fair price shop dealers and Vigilance Committee members, participated.
During the day-long programme, the Superintendent of Supply, Juniko K Marak, deliberated on National Food Security Act, 2013, the entitlement of food grains for the Antyodaya Anna Yojna (AAY) and the Priority House-Holds (PHH) beneficiaries, and the importance of Aadhar enrolment for availing the monthly allotted quota of food grains.
The Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, Tangme Ch Marak, spoke at length on the issues pertaining to contamination of common man's food and the measures to keep the food safe. She also highlighted the functions of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), AGMARK, FPO, and urged the people to be responsible consumers and to be vigilant while purchasing food items from the market. Nathan Ch Momin of M/S Tura Indane Service, Ringrey, deliberated on Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala 2.0, the flagship scheme of the Government of India under which free LPG connections are given to women beneficiaries belonging to the weaker section of the society.
The Sub-Inspector of Supply, Naseng D MArak, while speaking about general consumer awareness, highlighted the rights and responsibilities of consumers and urged the people to exercise their rights while purchasing goods and services.
During the day-long programme, COVID-19 vaccination and Aadhar enrolment camps were also organized simultaneously, stated a press release.
