Containment Zone declared in Motinagar locality of Shillong

Guwahati: After a COVID-19 positive case was detected in the Block-II of Lumpyngngad in Motinagar, Shillong, the district administration has marked the area as a containment zone, effective from July 22 onwards.

According to reports, the COVID-19 carrier had come in contact with several persons -- both high-risk and low-risk -- and they must now be screened for traces of the contagion. According to the DC's order, no person or vehicle shall be allowed into the Containment Zone area and the residents of the locality shall also be barred from venturing outside. The locals have been asked to stay within their homes.

Meanwhile, the district administration has also warned against the organizing of gatherings, events, functions of any nature and form, including social, political, religious, and economic activities, in the area. The administration has also asked all shopping establishments in the area to shut shop. In regards to the delivery of essentials, the district administration has said that various teams will be formed who will ensure the supply of the items.

All Government, as well as private institutions in the area, have also been asked to shut down until further orders. The Incident Commander of Zone -I will be the Supervising Officer of the Block-II of Lumpyngngad, Motinagar which is declared as a containment zone. The order of the district administration also states that any violation of the order will entail prosecution under the penal provision of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and IPC.

The state of Meghalaya has registered 514 COVID-19 cases so far, reveals Union Health Ministry data. Out of these, 433 cases are active. 77 patients have gone on to recover from the disease in the state. So far, 4 people have died due to the respiratory illness in the state. The rise of COVID-19 cases in the capital city of Shillong has prompted the state government to raise the COVID-19 alarm and impose more stringent measures to contain the spread of the virus.
