SHILLONG: Meghalaya recorded another COVID-19 death taking the number of fatalities to 131 even as the State recorded 66 new cases and 128 new recoveries, taking the number of active cases to 690 and the number of recovered cases to 12,186, informed Director of Health Services (MI) DrAman War on Tuesday.

The deceased — Basanti Das (54) of Oakland Road, Shillong — was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital and she tested COVID-19 positive on December 10 and expired at 8:10 am on December 14. The cause of death was tongue cancer with metastasis and COVID- 19 pneumonia. Of the 66 new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 57 (Armed and paramilitary forces: four; civilians: 53); West Garo Hills: four (Armed and paramilitary forces: one; civilians: three); East Jaintia Hills: two; and one each from Ri-Bhoi, South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills.

Of the 128 new recovered cases, East Khasi Hills registered 112 (Armed and paramilitary forces: 16; civilians: 96); West Garo Hills: 11; South West Garo Hills: two; and one each from East Jaintia Hills, Ri-Bhoi and West Khasi Hills. Of the 2,69,808 samples tested for COVID-19 till date, as many as 2,56,801 yielded negative results. The case fatality rate is one per cent. A total of 71, 962 people entered the State from outside Meghalaya till date, added Dr War.
