SHILLONG: Meghalaya recorded 39 new COVID-19 cases and 67 recoveries on Sunday, the Health authorities informed. Of the 39 new cases, Ri-Bhoi accounted for 20 (seven armed forces and civilians 13); East Khasi Hills: 18 (civilians 16 and armed forces two); and East Jaintia Hills recorded one case.

The total number of active cases is now 566 with East Khasi Hills recording 419 of them (BSF 91, civilians 260 and armed forces 68); Ri-Bhoi: 83; West Garo Hills: 31; West Jaintia Hills: 15; six each from East Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills; and two each were recorded from South West Garo Hills, South Garo Hills and North Garo Hills. Of the total 67 recoveries on Sunday, East Khasi Hills accounted for 52 (BSF 51 and one civilian); East Jaintia Hills: 13; and Ri-Bhoi recorded two, taking the total number of recoveries to 490 till date.

Meanwhile, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr informed that of the 16 civilians who tested positive in East Khasi Hills, six are contacts in North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), six are returnees, one is a tourist taxi driver and three are contacts of a corona-positive person at the Mawpat cluster.

In Ri-Bhoi district, of the 13 persons who tested positive one is an operator at CMJ Breweries in Byrnihat and 12 are his contacts. The lone positive case in East Jaintia Hills is that of a high-risk contact of a positive person in Robert's Hospital, Shillong.
