COVID-19: Educational Institutions closed in Meghalaya

Shutdown of cinema halls, malls, gymnasiums and swimming pools

SHILLONG: The State government on Monday declared that all educational institutions in the State will be closed from March 17 to 31. This has been done as a preventive measure to contain the outbreak of COVID-19.

On Monday, State Health Minister AL Hek made a suo motu statement in the Assembly during the Budget session.

“All educational institutions within the State are to remain closed except for holding examinations,” Hek said.

Places of mass gathering like cinema halls, malls, gymnasiums, major sports events and swimming pools are also to be closed.

Also conferences, workshops, meetings, seminars and trainings which involve large gatherings are to be postponed or cancelled.

“All non-essential travel outside and into the State are to be postponed or avoided,” the statement of the Health Minister said.

The Health department has also stated that visiting big, open and enclosed markets and tourist places are to be avoided.

The Health department has also advised social distancing and hand hygiene to be maintained in places of work and worship.

The Health department has also advised that notified fairs and festivals are to be postponed or cancelled and close contact in public transport is to be avoided.

“Companies or offices with work from home option may permit employees to do so,” the Health Minister said in his statement.
