TURA: Given the reported cases of dengue in the Garo Hills region, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, convened a meeting with the District Vector Borne Disease Control Officer and the representatives of the localities at DRDA Conference Hall, here, on 5 November.
The Deputy Commissioner urged the concerned authorities to closely monitor the situation and take preventive measures in the urban and rural areas to check the spread of dengue in the district. He also informed that the Testing Centre for dengue is functional at Tura Civil Hospital, stated a press release.
Stressing on the need to make the people understand the situation and stressed the immediate need to take precautionary measures.
At the same time, the DC also urged the representatives of the localities to support and cooperate with the authorities concerned in the mosquito-breeding sources, the reduction and scientific maintenance of solid and liquid wastes, and proper storage of water, among other moves.
He also asked the representatives to hold meetings in their respective localities to sensitize the people in tackling the viral disease.
During the meeting, the DVBDCO highlighted the symptoms of dengue, types of dengue-like probable and confirmed, transmission from mosquitoes to humans, roles of various laboratories un NVBDCP, methods and tools for vector control, etc.
The officer also informed that of the 36 cases reported from the urban areas so far, the Tura Civil Hospital quarters and Hawakhana here logged the majority of the cases.
