Demand for police outpost, fire station by Local MLA of Mawkynrew constituency Banteidor Lyngdoh

SHILLONG: Local MLA of Mawkynrew constituency Banteidor Lyngdoh on Monday submitted a letter to the Home Minister of Meghalaya James K Sangma on the urgent need to setup a police outpost and a fire station at Mawkynrew for the convenience of the people.

It may be mentioned that on 20th June 2018, Banteidor had submitted a memorandum to the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma demanding the same however till date no initiative has been taken by the government on this matter.

Speaking to reporters after meeting with the Home Minister, Lyngdoh who is also the Sports and Youth affairs Minister said, “Today I have submitted a reminder letter to the Home Minister on the need to set up a police outpost and a fire station at my constituency as many of residents are facing difficulty.”

Pointing out that Mawkynrew constituency falls under the jurisdiction of Madanryting Police Outpost, he said, “In recent past, due to its distant location of the outpost (Madanryting) most of the villages under Mawkynrew and its residents are deprived of the required immediate service of the police and Fire service.”

He is also said that majority of the people in his constituency belong to the BPL families and could not afford to travel to Madanryting in case they need to file an FIR or any other matter that relates to the works in police outpost or Fire Emergency Service station.

Meanwhile, the Home Minister James K Sangma said that the proposal made by the MLA of Mawkynrew to set up a police outpost and a Fire Emergency Service station within his constituency will be taken up for examination by the government.

“The MLA by bring this matter again shows that he is concern about the people of his constituency and hence the government will examine this proposal and we will try our best to ensure that administration is brought closer to the people,” he said.
