Efforts on to improve rural schools: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma

Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said that a concerted effort was needed from all stakeholders to improve education in the State. The Chief Minister was speaking at the closing ceremony of the silver jubilee celebration of Umpohliew Jingtip Higher Secondary School at Nongbsap, East Khasi Hills.

The new building of the school funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, was also inaugurated by the Chief Minister in the presence of PHE Minister S Malngiang.

Reiterating the government’s commitment towards the education sector, the Chief Minister said that efforts were on to improve infrastructure facilities of rural schools and make education more accessible to people living in the interior parts of the State. “If we are to bring long term changes and see that our society moves forward we must invest in education. I express my gratitude to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, for sanctioning the project and help build this structure”, he added.

The Chief Minister along with the other dignitaries also released the silver jubilee souvenir of the school.
