SHILLONG: A social media post with a photo of Meghalaya Chief Minister providing COVID-19 emergency relief fund is doing rounds on the internet.
The message stated that the state government would provide aid of Rs 5000 to all the unemployed youth in the state.
It further urged the interested ones to register and send their bank account details to their 'Official' Telegram group.
However, taking an action against it and information the public, the Meghalaya Police issued a scam alert over a misleading message about the Meghalaya government providing financial aid to unemployed youths on its Twitter handle.
The tweet reads, "A misleading and fake message is being circulated by some people with malafide intentions. We request citizens not to share/promote such unverified forwards. Appropriate action as per law will be initiated against those found propagating false and misleading information."

On the other hand, the special cell of East Khasi Hills Police with the help of West Jaintia Police on Saturday arrested a 38-year-old man for making a derogatory comment against the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner on Facebook.
The police took a suo moto case after the derogatory comment on Facebook went viral on all social media platforms.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Chief Minister condemned the act and wrote, "Condemn the distasteful comments made on the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district who has been executing her duties to the best of her ability to ensure the safety of all residents."
