SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) said that government hospitals should have equipment available 24x7 so that they can perform any procedure as and when required.
“We don’t know when an emergency case comes,” FKJGP, information secretary Reginald Thabah said.
Thabah was referring to the case of a pregnant woman who was refused admission into Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong because it lacked the tools to perform C-Section.
However, the hospital has since clarified that the patient was denied the operation because no sterilized surgical drapes were available at that time because several operations were performed on that day.
Meanwhile, the FKJGP has also urged the State Government to extend monetary help to the woman, who is currently under treatment at another city hospital.
The husband of the woman said that his wife underwent a C-Section in another hospital in Shillong and their child is in ICU.
“We hoped that the government extends help to the family as the baby is now in ICU and it is expensive,” FKJGP leader Thabah said.
