On Monday 29 November, Charles Pyngrop, a member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and the former leader of the Indian National Congress has been appointed as the new president of Trinamool Congress in the state of Meghalaya.
National General Secretary of Trinamool Congress, Abhishek Banerjee stated in an official statement that TMC party chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is strongly expecting a great change for the development and betterment of the state Meghalaya with the guidance of AITC, All India Trinamool Congress.
As the Chairperson of All India Trinamool Congress, Banerjee is delighted to appoint the current MLA of Meghalaya Charles Pyngrop as the president of AITC in the Meghalaya unit commencing immediately, said Abhishek Banerjee in the official statement.
This decision of Charles Pyngrop's appointment comes in an acceleration of the Meghalaya Assembly polls that are scheduled to be held in the year 2023. At present join forces of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), National People's Party is holding power in Meghalaya.
Charles Pyngrop was unanimously elected as the Meghalaya TMC President following the election held for appointing TMC Meghalaya president in Kolkata on Monday chaired by party chief Mamata Banerjee along with 12 other MLAs of Meghalaya who were earlier the leaders of Congress but left the party last week and merged with TMC.
Trinamool Congress is marking its footprints in states across the country and has been successfully making inroads in Meghalaya for the upcoming assembly polls. Earlier Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma switched his party from congress and joined TMC along with other 11 rebel Congress legislators and has been appointed as the parliamentary party leader of Trinamool Congress.
