SHILLONG: Division of Animal & Fisheries Sciences, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri Bhoi, organized a free animal health camp at Animal Health Clinic for Livestock farmers on October 28, 2021.

The programme was funded by ST Component (previously TSP), ICAR RC NEH Umiam. Around 85 tribal livestock farmers attended the programme from around 9 villages of Ri-Bhoi, the aspirational district of Meghalaya. The majority of farmers were rearing pigs followed by poultry and cattle. The programme was graced by Dr Samrendra Hazarika, Nodal officer, TSP; Dr Arnab Sen, in-charge, Head, DAFS and Dr M Islam, Head, KVK Ri-Bhoi. The resource persons discussed various issues of animal health and production.

This was followed by an animal health camp where discussions were held regarding the health ad disease status of animals with farmers, and gave them proper advice with free medicines. Most of the farmers presented had issues regarding skin ailments, diarrheal diseases, stunted growth of their animals with few of them reporting cough, minor wounds. All the farmers received a copy of the Animal First AID manual.
