SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday held interaction with producer groups, an initiative of Farmers Collectivization for Upscaling Production and Marketing Systems (FOCUS) at Gokulgre, near Mendal in North Garo Hills.
Speaking at the programme, Conrad K Sangma said that the government had earmarked Rs 200 crore for producer groups by way of which the government would be able to help farmers and entrepreneurs of the State. He said that Rs 40 crore was being released for different groups in phase-I, which would be rolled out soon. He said that through the CM's Support for Producers Group, the government had envisaged to provide interest-free loan to the farmers. He urged the farmers to work together as farmers' collective or producers' group and avail the benefits of the scheme.
He also told the gathering that to mark the anniversary of PA Sangma on September 1, the FOCUS programme would be held in different parts of the State, wherein financial support under the FOCUS programme would be released to producer groups. He also said that about 30,000 farmers would avail the benefit of the scheme in the next few months. The Chief Minister and other dignitaries also handed over financial support to different producer groups during the programme.
