SHILLONG: In a joint meeting with officials from GVK EMRI, Health Minister AL Hek, NGOs and employees of GVK under the banner of Meghalaya EMRI Worker Union (MEMRIWU) have taken a decision to resume services of GVK EMRI 108 starting Friday.

It may be mentioned that the GVK employees has been holding agitations for most part of this year and in the past two months have even decided to cease work and staged an indefinite hunger strike demanding hike in salary.

However, on Friday, after a long discussion with all the parties concerned, the management and the employees resolved their issues and will start their normal service.

Speaking to reporters, union president Roypar Kharraswai said, “We have decided to start our service once again after we have had this discussion with the minister and officials from the management.”

He informed that their demand was hike in salary by 100 per cent but the management has assured us that it will increase our salary by 30 per cent.

“As far as our demand that the government takes over the emergency service, it was decided that the services will continue as the contract of GVK EMRI in the State expire on March 2021,” he said.
