SHILLONG: Meghalaya Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling said that he would ask Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to convene a meeting with the Border Security Force (BSF) in view of the assault and looting of local population by suspected Bangladeshi nationals. “It is really unfortunate that the people from across border manage to enter the Indian territory and then commit crimes, assault and loot the local population residing along the international border,” Dohling said.

He further questioned as to how the Bangladeshi nationals could enter the Indian territory despite the presence of the BSF. “I am not sure if the border is secure as even the BSF personnel failed to protect themselves,” Dohling said.

The Urban Affairs Minister urged the local residents to inform the district authorities if they face any sort of insecurity.

Stating that “The government is committed to protect our own people”, Minister Dohling added that he will raise the matter with Home Minister James Sangma and seek increase of manpower at all the infiltration check posts across the State.
