 SHILLONG: The full Bench of Meghalaya High Court has directed the Meghalaya government to submit an inquiry report on the use of illegally-mined coal by cement plants and other two industries situated in the state.

The full Bench of Meghalaya High Court comprising Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee, Justice H.S. Thangkhiew and Justice W. Diengdoh, while hearing a batch of Public Interest Litigations (PILs), directed the Meghalaya government to submit the status report on the anomalies found in the industries i.e. cement, ferro-alloy and coke during the enquiry which is being monitored by Justice (Retd.) BP Katakey, in using coal for the purpose of manufacturing cement, said sources.

Amit Goyal, advocate appearing for the petitioner, submitted before the Court that despite an order passed by the full Bench on 10.08.2023, the government has not submitted any report as regard use of illegally-mined coal by cement plants and other industries. Taking note of this, the full Bench of Meghalaya High Court directed the Advocate General to submit the report in the matter on the next date of hearing on October 4, 2023.
