SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Friday recorded the highest number of single day infection with 627 fresh cases recorded even as 12 more fatalities were witnessed, health authorities informed.

Of the 12 deaths, 11 were recorded in East Khasi Hills district and one in West Garo Hills district.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that with the fresh infections the total number of active cases has reached 4014 and the deaths cases have mounted to 280.

Of the 627 new cases East Khasi Hills recorded 361, Ri-Bhoi 101, West Jaintia Hills 55, West Garo Hills 38, West Khasi Hills 24, South West Garo Hills 23, East Jaintia Hills 18, East Garo Hills five and North Garo Hills and South West Khasi Hills one each.

Of the 4014 active cases, East Khasi Hills the worst affected district has 2251, Ri-Bhoi 568, West Garo Hills 352, West Jaintia Hills 198, East Jaintia Hills 167, South West Garo Hills 154, West Khasi Hills 138, South Garo Hills 64, East Garo Hills 63, North Garo Hills 42 and South West Khasi Hills 17.

Dr. War also informed that the state also recorded 327 new recoveries taking the total recovered cases to 17909.

The Director of Health Services informed that the total persons tested till date 5,01,466 out of which 4,79,263 tested negative and 22203 are confirmed cases.

The case fatality rate till date is 1.26 percent.
