HSPDP leader Ardent Basaiawmoit announced new regional political party

SHILLONG: Former Hills State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP) leader Ardent Basaiawmoit on Tuesday announced the creation of a new regional political party christened as 'The Voice of the People's Party' (VPP) which will be headed by him as president. "The objective of floating this political party is to bring about change in the style of governance and root out all forms of corruption," Basaiawmoit said while speaking to reporters along with other leaders of the party. Basaiawmoit, who is also a former MLA and MDC of Nongkrem constituency, informed that the official launch of the party along with its manifesto would be held in December later this year.

He informed that other leaders in the party include Dr. Kara H Shen as vice-president, general secretary Dr. Ricky AJ Syngkon, finance secretary Dr. Peter Daniel S Khariong, beside others. "There are many political parties in the State but they have not been able to bring a style of governance which is expected by the people. Hence we decided to create a new regional party," he said. Basaiawmoit further said that this party would be an alternative for the people of Meghalaya in the next Assembly election in 2023 as the present government had failed to meet the expectations of the people of the state. When asked, if he will approach other MLAs and former MLAs and MDCs to join the party, he said, "Anyone can come and join our party if they are on the same page concerning different issues, one being to root out corruption. besides others."
