SHILLONG: A day after Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy extended his support to the Central government on Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) while also stating that the Bill should have been implemented long ago, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) -- a social organization in the State -- has reacted strongly to his statement.
"The Governor as per the Constitution act under the advice of the Council of Ministers, and as the Meghalaya government opposes the CAB, how can he take an opposite view to that of the State government view?" posed HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin here on Sunday.
Stating that "the Governor no longer has a moral and legal right to continue as the Governor of the State", he added, "The indigenous people of Meghalaya oppose CAB, he said, "By supporting CAB, the Governor has taken side with the illegal immigrants of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh."
He added "If the Governor wants to give his personal opinion nobody can stop him but let him resign first as the Governor, and then give his personal opinion whenever he likes."
