According to friends who knew her well, late Manisha Turnia was feeling unwell three weeks before her demise. She sought medical leave which was denied by the concerned authority. The fact that she was with child and had only 3 months to deliver remained elusive from her superiors it appears, and hence led to the sad culmination of her untimely death.

"We demand an immediate and thorough enquiry into the chronology of events that led to the unfortunate demise of Manisha Turnia and affix responsibility as well as punish those guilty of involuntary manslaughter," the organisation said.

The HITO also demanded adequate compensation to the bereaved kin of the deceased victim of official callousness and disburse at the same time if not promptly.

The organisation also urged the government to ensure that all frontline workers who succumb to COVID-19 whilst on duty are not denied their rightful dues both from the Centre as well as from the State.
