SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) on Monday apprised the Member Secretary of Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) requesting to close down all the coke factories in Jaintia Hills.

In connection with the order issued by the East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner on July 15, the HITO demanded immediate closure of all the illegal coke factories within five days. The MSPCB was questioned by the members of the HITO regarding the mining and transportation of coal in the State which is being carried out despite restrictions.
