SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Mawlai Circle has demanded of the State Government to temporarily shift the NEHRU Memorial State Dispensary at Mawlai Nongpdeng for the safety of patients and health workers in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

The demand after members of the HYC-MC conducted an inspection to the State dispensary and found that maintaining physical distance among the patients and health workers was a problem due to the condition of the building.

HYC-MC general secretary Bashan Lyngdoh Mawnai said that the staff room was very congested as not less than 15 people were sitting adding there is also lack of space for patients who visited the dispensary thereby making it difficult for them to maintain physical distancing.

According to him, patients and the staff of the dispensary are also compelled to use the same toilet.

"We therefore demand the State government through the Minister concerned, DHS and DM&HO to consider temporarily shifting of the dispensary to another location as its present building is being taken on rent for the past many years," Mawnai said.
