SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) central executive committee on Friday met Meghalaya Home Minister James K Sangma to discuss matters relating to the incident at New Balakhawa, Ri-Bhoi district. The council members also met the DGP of Meghalaya R Chandranathan.

It may be mentioned that on May 7, 2019, Michael Warjri, secretary of the Hima Nongspung was brutally attacked by miscreants. These miscreants also damaged the properties of Michael Warjri.

Later, Badarilin Rani, daughter of Michaeal Warjri lodged an FIR at Nongpoh police station and the same was registered as Nongpoh case No. 95 (5) 2019 and in the said FIR, she named around 10 persons involved in this crime which included the headman and secretary of New Balakhawa village among others.

Speaking to reporters after meeting with the minister, HYC-CEC president Roberjune Kharjahrin said, “In our opinion, this is a very serious case which needs immediate intervention by the State police and we demand immediate arrest of all persons involved in this crime.”

Meanwhile, MLA PT Sawkmie in a statement issued on Friday demanded that the State Government conducts a magisterial inquiry into the Michael Warjri case.

“I was surprised to see the attitude of the Assam Police. When they arrested Michael Warjri, instead of handing him over to the Ri-Bhoi police, they took him to Assam and put him in lock up,” the MLA said.
