Shillong: Lahkmen Rymbui, Home Minister of Meghalaya, has stated that the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, is yet to accept his resignation. The Home Minister has earlier resigned from the post. Rymbui also added that the home department will be functioning under him until his resignation is accepted.
"I will continue to look after the home department until my resignation is accepted by the chief minister," the Home Minister said.
Earlier this month, Rymbui had resigned as the Home Minister following the violence that took place in Shillong and adjoining areas as a consequence of the death of the HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.
Lahkmen Rymbui also serves as the minister of the education department of Meghalaya, apart from serving as the state's Home Minister.
The Home Minister has also called out the Congress for accusing the UDP of "misusing home department" for alleged illegal tax collection.
Rymbui argues that the statements made by the Meghalaya Congress's newly appointed President Vincent Pala is out of 'frustration'.
He added, "UDP never misuses any department for its benefit"
Previously, a curfew was imposed in Shillong taking into consideration the overall situation after the violence shook the state. There was also a ban on the use of internet.
Unknown miscreants had hurled a petrol bomb at the private residence of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at Third Mile in Upper Shillong.
