SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh BJP president Ernest Mawrie has urged State Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to include all the poor families within the National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA).
Stating in a letter that many have been left out of NFSA "because of the inefficiencies of subsequent State Governments, these people are being deprived of the benefits of various Central Schemes especially during the COVID pandemic."
Mawrie further stated that "instead of trying to pass the blame to the Central Government for keeping the non-ration card holders outside the extended 'PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana', the State government should accept the fact that issuing 'Ration Cards' is the responsibility of the State."
Adding that "instead of trying to hide our failures", Mawrie requested the CM "to accept our own inadequacies and inefficiencies in including the poor and deserving people under NFSA, and to work urgently towards righting the wrong".
