SHILLONG: The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Meghalaya State Branch in collaboration with the BDOs of Mawlai, Mylliem, Bhoirymbong and Mawryngkneng Blocks carried an awareness programme on the importance of the COVID vaccine.

IRCS, Meghalaya State Branch general secretary, Andrew N Sawian advised the people to ignore rumours and fake news on the side-effects of the vaccine but encouraged them to come forward and take the vaccination.

He also stressed how the vaccine can prevent major complications and hospitalization that can come out of contracting COVID-19.

Experts from the Health Department including the respective BDOs also briefed the residents on the advantages of getting vaccinated and how it can help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

During the programme, the IRCS distributed face masks and soaps to the participants.
