SHILLONG: Even as the the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government completed two-and-half years in August 2020 and the recent rejig of the Cabinet by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, two of its constituents are still working out the modalities to ensure the smooth interchange of their members into the State cabinet. The BJP and HSPDP have two MLAs each (with one member each as representative in the cabinet).

The question now is on the readiness of the two sitting Ministers on the issue of their replacement after they were in the Cabinet for two-and-half years.

Sources inside the BJP told this correspondent that the Shillong South legislator, Sanbor Shullai has been assertive that he should be inducted into the Cabinet after the government completed its half-period tenure.

Presently, Alexander Hek is the BJP member in the Ministry. The president of State BJP, E Mawrie has said that all decisions in this regard will be taken after due consultations with the Central leadership.

Similarly, the HSPDP with two members including Samlin Malngiang as a Minister in the Cabinet. As reported earlier, they agreed to go by the 'rotation mode'. HSPDP president KP Pangniang said, "This issue will be amicably sorted out in our meeting slated shortly."

Besides these subtle arrangements, one thing is clear though: There will be no issue on the continuity of the Conrad K Sangma government.
