International Day of Older Persons observed in East Khasi Hills District

 SHILLONG: The District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills District, observed the International Day of Older Persons 2023 at a function held at Neng Gate Community Hall, Pynursla, on Wednesday. The theme for the celebration is ‘Fulfilling the Promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons: Across Generations.’

The programme was attended by E. Warjri, Sub-Divisional Officer, Pynursla Civil Sub Division, Pynursla, as the Chief Guest in the presence of E. Kharchandy, District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills District, officials from the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills District, District Child Protection Officer, and senior citizens of Pynursla areas.

The highlights of the day are lectures on the subjects ‘Matters related to health issues concerning senior citizens’ and ‘Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007’, a free medical and health checkup camp for senior citizens, and the distribution of gifts to all senior citizens who attended the programme, stated a press release.
