SHILLONG: As part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva” initiative, the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) organized the distribution of saplings to the school children in Meghalaya at Scouts and Guides HQ, Shillong.

Uttiya Bhattacharyya, Chief General Manager, Indian Oil AOD and Head of North East Marketing of Indian Oil distributed saplings to the children and said that for a clean or ‘Swachh’ environment more trees are to be planted. The programme organized by Indian Oil is in line with the corporations' policy towards enhancing its green cover and mitigation of greenhouse gas emission.

Speaking on the occasion, Uttiya Bhattacharyya said that last year, the organization took the initiative of planting over 2,10,000 saplings across the country to enhance the green cover.

The program at the school is indicative of our commitment to maintaining a clean environment for the future generation, he added. He urged all the children and other dignitaries to spread the message of making tree plantation a festivity.

He also mentioned that not only tree plantation and distribution of saplings but Indian Oil has suggested for a dedicated area in the city of Shillong to convert it into a dense jungle that would work as “The lungs of the city”.
