SHILLONG: Shillong city is all decked up for Christmas. On Christmas eve, people were seen rushing to the markets buying goodies, cakes and other items.

There was huge traffic jam all over the city with shoppers thronging Iewduh, Police Bazar, Laitumkhrah.

People were seen queuing in various shops selling cakes.

Meanwhile, to help Christmas shoppers, radio station 91.1 Mirchi FM, Shillong arranged buses to ferry them. 91.1 Mirchi FM, Shillong is giving its listeners and the people of Shillong a chance to enjoy their commute for free while they go shopping.

“Keeping in mind the traffic snarl in the city and that many Christmas shoppers will be left stranded looking for taxis and buses to ferry them home, Mirchi has come up with a way to help the people of Shillong get to their shopping destination and back home in style with the Mirchi Bos Krismas,” a statement from them said. There are two buses decorated with the signature Mirchi colours of red and yellow and they will be travelling on the Mawblei - Motphran route and so on, dropping off passengers at main points.

The activity was flagged off by Smt. Claudia Lyngwa, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong from IGP point earlier today.

“The reason behind this quirky and innovative idea is because there are many people who complain of not getting taxis and buses especially during this time of the year when shopping is in full swing. They hope to ease the stress that Christmas shoppers have as well while inside the bus,” 91.1 Mirchi FMFM said.

Each bus has at least one Mirchi RJ entertaining the passengers and singing Christmas carols keeping the festive spirit alive.

According Getting stuck in traffic might not feel so bad anymore because there will be prizes to be won while commuters are travelling home.

Meanwhile, faithfuls attended services to usher in Christmas.
