Shillong: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has submitted a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills regarding the high price of essential commodities, on Wednesday.

The JSU in the letter pointed out that they have received complaints that the retail price shops are unable to lower the prices since most of the small vendors are themselves purchasing the same at a higher price. The Jaintia Students’ Union urged that the authorities should regulate stocks from the higher supply chain to keep their prices at affordable range which will automatically control the prices at the open market.

The JSU also wrote that some retail or wholesale shops are taking undue advantage by overcharging due to scarcity of supply and urged the government to instruct the authorities to take action against such offenders.

The JSU had earlier given suggestion through its letter to the Chief Minister on April 6 to mandate the display of stock and price details of products and that the government had recently given out orders for the display of price which was highly appreciated by the students body.
