SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) Laskein Circle on Monday visited Khatkasla village which is located near Block I after receiving information that the Assam government is planning to set up a police outpost near the village.
During their visit, members of the union found that the information is genuine and the Assam government is planning to construct the outpost at Khlaw village.
The union also witnessed that the Assam government has been using heavy machines like JCBs to flatten the area to immediately start construction work on the police outpost.
KSU Laskein Circle president Balawan Suchiang said that the union object and strongly oppose this intention of the Assam government to set up a police outpost in the area as it is still under Meghalaya.
He also said that the union will not sit idle concerning this issue and in the coming days will approach the Meghalaya Government to demand their intervention to immediately put a stop to the construction work at Khlaw village.
Balawan also expressed disappointment over the lack of seriousness on the part of the Meghalaya government to allow such activities to be carried out by the Assam government within the boundary of the State.
