Shillong: The police hunt for president of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) North Khasi Hills unit, Ferdinand Kharkamni has not yielded results. A lookout notice was given throughout the State, but the individual continues to evade arrest.

Kharkamni “assaulted” an Officer in–Charge of Umiam Police Station and another head which was caught on CCTV cameras. Superintendent of Police Ri Bhoi district C Syrti told The Sentinel that in spite of the notice, he failed to appear before the designated police station. “Sixteen days have passed since the incident; there are chances that the accused will go for anticipatory bail,” he said.

The SP said that the act of the KSU activist is a grave offense that has to be taken to a logical end in front of the court.

The KSU has already defended its senior member on grounds that the police officer and the head constable used abusive language against the union and the community, a reason that prompted him to react.

“Our search is on and there will be let off from the cases that we have already registered”, stated Syrti.
